Youth Exchange
Culture.World.Diversity
7-16 September 2019, Naples
The Culture.World.Diversity. brought together 30 youngsters from 6 different countries (Spain, Ukraine, Germany, Italy, Russia, Belarus) in learning about discrimination and connected to it human rights with a main focus on Gender and LGBT rights.
Project Work
The participants worked together using creative and interactive methods of non-formal education with a focus on theater methods such as the "Theater of the Oppressed" of Augusto Boal. We also hosted meetings with stakeholders and civil society activists on the topic of discrimination and human rights. As a result, we developed a performance with a message "Celebrate Diversity!" which was shown at the LGBT Pride in Sorrento on the 12th of September 2019.
As a result all participants prepared a performance together with a message "Celebrate Diversity!"
During the exchange our main focus had been on LGBTQI+ rights. Participants explored such topics as sexuality, gender and gender expression, as well as: What's the difference between gender and sex? Sexual orientation and gender expression? What's "queer", "nonbinary", "intersex"?

We explored the meaning and different dimensions of human rights worldwide. Through an interactive and creative methodology we discovered what is love. We pondered on the meaning of "love" for every single person, as well as how it is usually thought of stereotypically in the communities we live in. Additionally, we hosted a meeting with a local stakeholder and civic society LBGT+ activist from Naples on the topic of LGBT+ and discrimination in Italy.

We worked with techniques of Theater of the Oppressed, Improvisation Theater, Jeux Dramatiques, Creative Writing elements from dance and movement theater and Butoh.

As a result all participants prepared a performance together with a message "Celebrate Diversity!", which was shown during the Sorrento pride parade on the 12th of September.

"Our actors wore all black. They walked around the square before the start of pride holding newspapers, making sounds with them, marching. They bumped into each other, distracted, ignoring each other. And then, they started to see each other. They realized that they are not alone and then they began to dance and to connect. From mirroring each other... to a free dance... to springing each other with glitter.

A happening to support the local LGBT+ community and to celebrate diversity.

At the end we sang "This is the story of my pony" inviting the crowd to sing and dance together.
